[Polar Friends] 자체 제작 애니메이션

안녕하세요, 스튜디오 에임입니다.
이번 프로젝트는 스튜디오 에임의 자체 IP 애니메이션, 〈폴라 프렌즈: 더 비기닝(Polar Friends: The Beginning)〉입니다. 스튜디오 에임은 생성형 AI를 활용해 세계관과 캐릭터 기획부터 영상 제작까지 모든 과정을 직접 진행했습니다.

〈폴라 프렌즈〉는 서로 다른 생태계에서 모인 일곱 동물 친구들이 기후 위기에 빠진 세상을 구하는 3D 어드벤처 애니메이션입니다. 북극곰 마쉬, 펭귄 핍, 사막여우 룰루, 돼지 벅키, 바다코끼리 핀, 바다거북 셸리, 작은 새 코코. 생김새도 사는 곳도 전혀 다른 친구들이 북극의 얼음 동굴에서 운명처럼 만나 생명의 근원인 '아로라 스톤'을 깨웁니다.

아로라 스톤은 자연의 생명력을 품은 마법의 원석입니다. 오염으로 빛을 잃었지만, 일곱 친구의 우정과 협동이 닿는 순간 찬란한 오로라 빛을 뿜어내며 다음 목적지를 알려주는 나침반이 됩니다. 친구들은 그 빛을 따라 북극, 사막, 바다, 정글의 4대 생태계를 누비며 녹아내리는 빙하와 메마른 사막, 쓰레기로 뒤덮인 바다와 쓰러져 가는 세계수를 하나씩 되살려 나갑니다.

작품 제목의 'Polar'에는 이야기가 시작되는 '극지방'과 함께, '서로 완전히 다른'이라는 의미도 담았습니다. 악당을 무찌르는 대신 노래와 체온, 춤과 지혜를 모아 자연을 치유하는 이야기로, 아이들이 '틀림'이 아닌 '다름'의 가치와 환경의 소중함을 자연스럽게 배울 수 있도록 기획했습니다.

연출은 생태계마다 다른 색과 속도감을 살리는 데 집중했습니다. 하얀 빙벽을 썰매처럼 미끄러져 내려오는 북극, 황금빛 모래바람이 이는 사막, 빛이 일렁이는 푸른 바다, 초록빛 정글이 매치 컷으로 끊김 없이 이어지며, 마지막에는 일곱 친구가 함께 손을 뻗은 아로라 스톤의 빛이 세상을 맑게 물들입니다.

This project is STUDIO aim's original IP animation, 〈Polar Friends: The Beginning〉. Using generative AI, STUDIO aim handled every stage of production in-house, from building the world and characters to creating the final film.

〈Polar Friends〉 is a 3D adventure animation about seven animal friends from different ecosystems who come together to save a world in climate crisis. Marsh the polar bear, Pip the penguin, Lulu the desert fox, Bucky the pig, Finn the walrus, Shelly the sea turtle, and Coco the little bird. Completely different in looks and homes, the friends meet by fate in an ice cave in the Arctic and awaken the 'Arora Stone,' the source of all life.

The Arora Stone is a magical gem that holds the life force of nature. It has lost its light to pollution, but the moment the friendship and teamwork of the seven friends reach it, it bursts into brilliant aurora light and becomes a compass pointing to their next destination. Following that light, the friends travel across four great ecosystems, the Arctic, the desert, the sea, and the jungle, bringing back to life melting glaciers, dried-up deserts, trash-covered oceans, and a fading World Tree.

The word 'Polar' in the title refers both to the polar region where the story begins and to the meaning of 'completely different.' Instead of defeating villains, the friends heal nature by bringing together songs, warmth, dance, and wisdom, so that children can naturally learn the value of being 'different,' not 'wrong,' and the importance of protecting the environment.

The direction focused on bringing out the distinct colors and pace of each ecosystem. The Arctic, where the friends slide down white ice cliffs like a sled, the desert swept by golden sandstorms, the shimmering blue sea, and the green jungle flow seamlessly through match cuts, until the light of the Arora Stone, reached by all seven friends together, washes the world clean.
